Following the 2005 season the CONNY Training and Sportsmanship Committees analyzed the quality of play and number and nature of sportsmanship complaints over the two previous seasons. This analysis showed clearly the efficacy of coaches training and the CONNY Board voted at its December 7, 2005 meeting to require that, beginning with the 2006 season, every coach who appears on a CONNY sideline must have completed both CONNY Coaches Training—with special emphasis on behavior and sportsmanship—and CONNY Rules Training and must complete refresher or follow-on training in each discipline at intervals to be set by the Board, initially every two years.
2010 BOYS COACHING REQUIREMENTS
At its February 6, 2007 meeting, the Board voted to require that every coach pass the free, open-book, CONNY Online Rules Test every year, but dropped any requirement to attend an in-person CONNY Rules Workshop.
For CONNY Coaches Training, the Board still requires that every coach complete a CONNY recognized online or in-person coaches training course at least every two years.
If you are a NEW COACH in 2010, you must:
1. Pass the 2010 CONNYLacrosse On-Line Rules Test BEFORE the start of the 2010 CONNY season.
AND …
2. Pass the US Lacrosse Coaches Education Program Level 1 Coaches Course online or in-person BEFORE the start of the 2011 CONNY season.
OR
Pass the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Double-Goal Coach Course online or in person BEFORE the start of the 2011 CONNY season.
Even though new coaches are not required to take USLax CEP or PCA training before their first season, CONNY strongly urges that they do so.
If you are a VETERAN COACH in 2010 who completed your CONNY-recognized in-person or online Coaches Training in 2009, you must:
· Pass the 2010 CONNYLacrosse On-Line Rules Test BEFORE the start of the 2010 CONNY season.
If you are a VETERAN COACH in 2010 who completed your CONNY-recognized in-person or online Coaches Training before 2009, you must:
1. Pass the 2010 CONNYLacrosse On-Line Rules Test BEFORE the start of the 2010 CONNY season.
AND …
2. Pass the US Lacrosse Coaches Education Program Level 1 Coaches Course online or in-person BEFORE the start of the 2010 CONNY season.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Coaches who completed the Connecticut Lacrosse Foundation (the US Lacrosse Connecticut Chapter) Coaches Convention on January 10 or the CONNY Coahes Clinic on January 30 have fulfilled their 2010 coaches training requirment. They still must pass the 2010 CONNY Rules Test.
Some member programs seek to fulfill the CONNY coaches training requirements by conducting their own training. The Board has authorized two ways to do this.
First, some towns and cities require training for all youth coaches and other programs have local youth coach training resources equivalent the CONNY recognized PCA, ASEP, and US Lacrosse courses. If this training is professionally administered and covers the philosophical and behavioral issues addressed in PCA, ASEP, and USLax training, the CONNY Training Committee will recognize all who complete it as having attended a Coaches Behavior Training Workshop. Programs interested in pursuing this approach should send the course syllabus and trainer’s credentials to the CONNY Training Committee at
for review and approval.
Second, to aid remotely located member programs, the Board has authorized “downstream” workshops, conducted by individuals within the program who first attend the CONNY Workshops. Unless these individuals are trained clinicians, certified by PCA, ASEP, USLax, or a similar organization recognized by the Training Committee, special quality control requirements govern CONNY “trained coach” recognition via this downstream workshop procedure. Programs interested in conducting downstream workshops should contact the Training Committee at
for the requirements.
